Tips of Fire Safety

Check Your Smoke Alarms

  1. A working smoke detector reduces the chances of dying in a fire by nearly fifty (50) percent. They are the crucial first step for staying safe.

  2. For the best protection, please install a smoke detector on every level of your home, including outside of every sleeping area and in each bedroom.

  3. Use Daylight Savings Time (this year – November 6, 2016) as a reminder to check the operation of your smoke detectors. Replace the batteries at least once a year, even if the alarms are hard wired directly into your home’s electrical system.

  4. 10-year batteries may be used in the smoke detectors. You still need to check for the operation of the detectors.

  5. All smoke detectors expire after 10 years. So if your alarm is more than 10 years old, you should install a new one.
