Colder Weather Approaching - Preventive Maintenance

As we near the beginning of winter and colder weather, here are some helpful hints for homeowners and property owners:

Before you give the heating system a workout this winter, take time now for preventive maintenance. It will help extend the life of your system and identify potential problems.

Have your furnace or boiler checked and serviced by a licensed contractor annually, preferably before the heating season begins.

Clean or replace the furnace filter on forced hot air systems.

Have your chimney checked and serviced by a licensed contractor at least once a year. It is important to pay particular attention to inspecting the inside of the chimney so see if creosote has built up from using your woodstoves and fireplaces. Have the chimney cleaned

or serviced as needed.

Check all smoke detectors, fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, and replace their batteries to ensure they are operating properly.
